Winter Reading List

I've always loved reading. Lucky for me growing up, my version of Christmas morning happened on the first day of every month during the school year, when the teacher would place the Scholastic Book Club catalog underneath our desks. If you were born in the 80s, you know what I'm talkin' about! My parents generously allowed me to order several books a month and I took full advantage.

I read everything I could get my hands on... Goosebumps, the American Girl series, Babysitters Club, Nancy Drew... then I was onto more serious themes in my early teens... 1984, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, The Great Gatsby... enter college cheesiness.... Jen Lancaster, Nicholas Sparks, Danielle Steele (I just admitted that, wow)... then onto young adult... David Sedaris, Ernest Hemingway... and now I'm into it all plus a little enlightenment and business related prose.

Despite my love of reading, I don't get around to it as much as I'd like. Take tonight for example: I really wanted to spend a few hours reading. Instead, I spent a few hours researching books that I want to read. I had the best of intentions but I just didn't get around to actually reading anything except book reviews. Counter productive at it's finest.

Well, at least I got a good reading intentions list out of it. Below are some books on my radar. Do you have any books that you can recommend to me or have you read any of the below? I like it all: fiction, historical, thriller, romance, political, the classics, enlightenment, comedy. Bring it! The book recommendations that is...

Click on any on the books below for a description and link to buy the book yourself

  8. My sisters and I are readaholics! We are all really into psychological thrillers, and kind of 'messed up' books and themes. Lolita is hands down one of my favorites of all time and next up for me is the Tropic of Cancer as soon as my sis finishes. You should read the background behind that book, it's pretty interesting :)

  10. I am a BIG reader. I have always read just about everything I can get my hands on. When I was little, my parents would say I couldn't get a toy, but they never told me no if I wanted a book!
I recently read Gone Girl and it is AMAZING. Definitely one of the best books I have ever read. I just finished Silver Linings Play book and it was so good too! The Paris Wife is on my list to read and so are the other two Gillian Flynn books.

  20. Lolita and Gatsby are so so good, I love The Sun Also Rises too. My favourite book is Any Human Heart by William Boyd - if you haven't read it then you must! It's so well written that you forget the characters are fictional.
I found all my old Goosebumps and Point Horrors in my parent's loft the other day, along with my embarrassingly large collection of Judy Blume books! x

  21. If you're interested in The Devil in the White City, then you should definitely check out In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson as well. A few others I'd totally recommend are: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, The Man in the Rockefeller Suit, The Tipping Point, Outliers and Tuesdays with Morrie x

  23. Perfect timing for this post since I'm up for the next book nomination at my book club! We just finished the Language of Flowers which was fantastic and are currently (supposed to be) reading Sweet Tooth but I just can't get into it.

If you're into non-fiction, Seth Godin is by far my favorite author ever.
    Happy Weekending!

  24. I need to read so many books too! I also read the same books (Nancy Drew, Babysitter's Club series)when I was a kid, mostly because I studied in a US American school.
Now I am more of a classic literature kind of reader (Dostoyevsky is my favourite all time author).
One thing I will never read though is anything by that psychotic bitch called Ayn Rand. Her pseudo philosophy and political views disgust me, but I know Atlas Shrugged is an interesting read. x

  29. I think The Devil in the White City is fantastic book. I have Larson's In the Garden of Beasts on my "to read" shelf because of how much I enjoy TDITWC.

Also, I copied your list and will check out the books I have not already read.
