I've Been Tagged // 5 Things About Me

Good news! The maid of honor speech went great this past weekend, along with all the other wedding festivities! Thanks for all of your encouragement- you guys are the absolute best!

The talented Alison from Heart of Gold and Luxury and lovely Tiffany from Tiffany Leigh Interior Design tagged me for the "Five Things" series where you are urged to share "5 Things About Yourself" that your blogging community might not know. I like to think of myself as an open book but sometimes I know how shielded I can be on the blog so here goes....

1 || One
I love cheese. I put it on everything and can't go a day without a slice of something yummy. I swear this is probably the one pitfall to my diet. I can't and I won't give it up. Just yesterday, I picked up a new amazing looking cheese from Trader Joes (the vintage reserve cheddar) and I couldn't even wait to get home to try it... so I opened it up while sitting at a stop light and just took a bite out of the block. So pumped when the person in the car next to me noticed. This is real life. I'm obsessed with cheese!

2 || Two
I'm still trying to fall in love with the community that I live in with my boyfriend... you know, the same community where we just bought a house. If anyone has been to Ocean Beach in San Diego, they might describe it as a "hippie town" or just plain "interesting." Everyone is VERY laid back and so is the community. They are not interested in fashion or trendy clubs or the latest cool eatery. I wouldn't say that I am all of those things but a part of me is and this community is SO not those things... so I am still trying to get used to it. I can't see myself anywhere else but I still need my readjustment time.

3 || Three
I am super duper close with my family. We don't have too much extended family nearby so we lean on each other for support. I run all my ideas and decisions through them and they do the same with me. I would never send out a resume without my having my genius teacher mom review it first or go into an important business meeting without my dad's experienced business tips. And my sister.. Well, I don't make any decisions without her input. We are one and the same. Family is so important to me and I hope I can pass this value along to my kids.

4 || Four
The biggest thing I've been trying to learn how to do is chill the eff out. I've always been tough on myself with school, work, personal ambitions, over-applying myself, and saying "yes" to everyone and everything. As I get older and especially in the last few months, I'm trying to learn how to say "no" and not overwhelm myself with crap that doesn't really matter in the end. If I don't hit 5 blog posts in one week, don't freak! If I don't eat right for a month straight, no crying. I'm trying not to be everything to everyone and I am starting to realize that I can really get used to it!

5 || Five
One thing I am proud of is that I have zero body hang-ups. Yes, I have cellulite on my butt and I have some days where I feel "fluffy," but for the most part, I seriously don't put that much emphasis on body image. I think I got this confidence and body self-UN-awareness from my parents, who were more focused on my school and work than beauty... and my boyfriend, who tells me he loves me every 5 minutes. I'm not concerned about beauty creams or anti-cellulite creams. These won't fix any inner beauty problems and seriously, I don't care if my laugh lines show. I'd rather think about the sun on my face and the sand beneath my toes than focus on what my butt looks like in my bathing suit. There are so many other important things in life than to stress about body hang-ups. There's not much you can do so relax and enjoy life!

6 \\ Six (Bonus Question i.e. I couldn't narrow it down to five things)
I know that I will want kids someday but the idea of having them absolutely terrifies me. I have never, ever been one to say "what a beautiful baby" or "I'll babysit your kids." Kids are cute and all and, yes, they do the darndest things, but after an hour of playing with barbies or playing tag, I am exhausted and mentally checked out. When I get home from work, all I want to do is kick back, have a glass of wine, blog and spend time with family, friends and the boy. I can't imagine adding kids to the mix. I know you have to find balance but I am so scared to even know what that balance is.

Ok, so there it is! I feel like I bared a lot... almost like I left home without my pants on! You're next MayaJamie, LauraJamie and Yolanda! I'd love to hear your "5 Things!"

  1. I've been meaning to do exact same tag post - you inspired me to do it this week, so watch this space (if you're interested to read my babble, that is)!

    Thank you for sharing these with us - it's so nice to get to know your favourite bloggers better and to see how similar they are to you! It's so wonderful that you haven't got any body hang-ups and that you're so confident, this is so rare in this body-image/media saturated world. You are definitely a one young inspirational lady, Holly! xo

  2. Wow, we're so similar :) I had a really hard time falling in love with my new city when we first moved here, but after about a month, something just shifted and I am SO, SO happy here. I am also absolutely terrified of having kids. Mostly because I really like sleeping :)

    1. That's amazing to hear and I seem to hear the same thing among a lot of mamas out there... the fact that they didn't love other people's kids but love their own more than they could have ever imagined! One day I'll be there too I'm sure!

  6. So great to learn more about you holly! I couldn't agree with you more on point 6, I have no idea how I would fit kids into the mix of everything else, I am already so busy. It is good to know I am not the only one that feels this way:)

  7. Wow, great to know you better Holly!
    What a great relationship you have with your family!
    And I understand what you mean about kids ... I really love my nieces but I have never been obsessed with the idea of having kids, maybe it's just by fear as you said.
    Anyway, a great post :)

  8. So fun Holly. So proud of you for number 5, and am SO with you on number six. I just am not sure I can see myself with little kiddos.. plus, the idea of actual childbirth is frightening, all the rips and tears and stitches and horror. It will be interesting to see where we end up in a few years!

    1. OMG same here, Tiffany! I am going to beg for a C-Section for sure! Natural childbirth scares the living daylight out of me!

    1. Adrienne, that is an excellent point!!! You are a smart cookie! My sister moved back home for awhile when she was job hunting post college and LOVED it! I was secretly jealous! I would LOVE to move back home! What a fun experience for you!

  14. I'm so jealous of your cheese addiction. I've been a cheese lover all my life but developed a lactose intolerance when I was 18. It's only gotten worse! It's devastating to me! I can also completely agree on overloading yourself and being afraid of having kids! I love to be stressed out and sometimes I take on too much. I'm so glad to hear the speech went great too! xo

TOTES on the same page as you with the whole kid thing. It terrifies me, and I constantly feel like OMG I am getting older, I need to start wanting them soon! Everyone-- please stop asking when I'm having a baby!!

  16. Lol!! Number 6 totally made me smile ;) This is/was me for a long time...and you know what...there's nothing wrong with that.
    Even know as we get ready to welcome our little princess, I know that things will change BUT that doesn't mean they can't be just as fab ;)
    Loved all your points....I too am a cheese fanatic. We just had raclette last night for dinner...yes, melted cheese in Miami.
    Certainly not the first time either ;)
    Enjoy your day, your lovely wine in the evening and your new home!!
    The community will grown on you...give it some time.

    1. You are embracing motherhood exactly the way that I hope I do- with grace, excitement and not a care in the world that things will drastically change. You are absolutely right! There is no reason that things can't be just as fabulous. Knowing you, things will become more fabulous after the baby girl arrives!

  17. Hello Cheese Lover,

    Love this post! I am with you on the kiddo thing. I am not trrified of kids, but I am certainly terrified of how it may potentially change my life. It is interesting that you brought this up, because just yesterday, hubby said he was ready to start having children. I looked at him with a "what", uh, huh" look. I told him to let me think about it. It's not that I don't ever want to be a mother, I'm just scared of how things may change after. And I like my life as is. Anyhow, we will see how the next few months go. As always, it was great to learn more about you.

  18. Yay...I love this. We definitely do not see eye to eye on Cheese (I hate most cheeses) but are 100% the same on the kids issue. And it is tough adjusting to a beachy, hippie neighborhood but I see myself getting more and more comfortable the longer I am in mine. Dressing up is tough but I still do it because it makes me happy. On the other hand, beachy causal is easy and comfy! :)

  24. I have a really hard time with the chilling out too! I am so type A, even when I am "relaxing" I am on my computer doing blog stuff or folding laundry or working on stuff for my etsy shop. I only rest when I am asleep (and sometimes I work in my sleep).
