Welcome to the third installation of my "Art I Love" series. When I was younger, we would spend our summers in the small town of Le Mars, Iowa, where my mom grew up. We would always be sure to visit while the fair was going on, which tends to be a big deal in small farming communities like La Mars. It's a chance to mingle with your fellow town folk, try to win a stuffed animal and enter your farm animals into contests to win coveted blue ribbons. Fattest hog anyone? Largest Pumpkin?
I have such fond memories of eating the salt water taffies and popcorn and riding on the ferris wheel until the fair closed. These giclee prints by Zee Longnecker really invoke those memories for me. They just look so classic and vintage. I would love to have a "carnie wall," featuring lots of prints just like this.
Loooove the fairground wheel. Could see that blown up really big in a dining room!
